Summer Project Update

The large Summer Project this year is replacing the kitchen hood from 1960. The Fire Marshall has been on us for a few years to replace it because it no longer meets fire code. The $74,000 (that’s not a typo) is well under way and should be done by the middle of July. They will be tearing out the old unit and replacing it with an all new, slightly larger unit over the stove, oven and steamer. The exhaust system is totally re-designed and will have an exterior exhaust going up about ten feet and having the fan at the end of the exhaust instead of in the kitchen like it is now. It is also required that we have a heated, exterior, air intake unit that will use outside air for theĀ  exhaust instead of an interior intake system like we have. It has to be heated for use in the winter so that cold air is not brought into the kitchen. Who knew? So, for the beginning of the school year, we will have a brand new kitchen hood exhaust and fire suppression system that will hopefully last another 60+ years! Our second Summer Project will begin in July. We will be tuck-pointing the brick on the east and south sides of the original 1910 House that has never been touched. This will take about three weeks and should address the mortar joint issues we’ve had for a few years. It’s a never ending battle!
