On behalf of the actives I would like to express our gratitude to our alumni for this year’s Founder’s Day at 503 W. State. The event was a huge success! We had 75 men in our wonderful cafeteria, which includes 16 alumni! Darryl Holst ’69< and Jim Jackson ’67 were inducted into the Golden Legion where Joe Lorenz and Tony Ragheb reached their mid-point of the journey to the revered Golden Legion. Jay Ihlenfeld ’74 provided poignant words of wisdom intended to guide the actives in their everyday lives, yet his works are applicable well beyond the walls of the Phi Lodge and we sincerely thank him for his time and commitment to our chapter! I was excited to share to all in attendance a brief update on our chapter. Yet I know not everyone was there so I’d like to provide some insight into our chapter. Over the past few years, our chapter has evolved dramatically with our chapter GPA increasing from 2.67 to 2.92, which puts us above the all-men’s average on campus of 2.86. Our membership has gone up to a current total of 83 actives. We currently house 38 in the chapter facility and we expect that to increase to around 45 next fall. Our home has undergone a large number of physical improvements as well over the last three years. From the completion of a private movie theater in the basement to the remodel of the cafeteria and kitchen to the revitalization of Uncle Sherwins, this house has been busy!
Although these events are in the past, we are looking forward to what the future holds! We hope to continue to develop men through acts of philanthropy, scholarship and brotherhood in order to achieve a high standard of morality, integrity and excellence. We are already seeing the rewards from our commitment to these words as we speak where, this semester, we started a completely new philanthropy called, Phi Delt PhysEd. We were able to raise over $1,000 with the help of the lovely ladies of Delta Gamma. More than 20 teams signed up to play 90’s gym class games! We look forward to building off this year’s success and into next year’s philanthropies.
Mom’s Day, April 9, 2016 | Spring 2016 Pledge Class |
Our goal for the house GPA within the next semester is a 3.0, which is extremely obtainable since we are recruiting better than we ever have. The most recent initiated pledge class had above a 3.0 altogether! Finally, a few weekends ago we were able to successfully organize a spring formal in Chicago, IL on a boat! This was the culmination of a successful semester of brotherhood where we went to a Pacers game, paintballing and renovated Uncle Sherwins together!
On April 9 we hosted our annual Mom’s Day at 503 W. State. The event was a huge success from our amazing food cooked by our chef, to the participation from actives, to the money we raised! We’re proud to announce that we raised over $4,800 and we look to funnel those funds into house improvements this summer and fall. With the continued improvements we seek to do to the Phi Lodge, we undoubtedly need the support from our mothers and are elated they are willing to support our endeavors!
In all, we are extremely thankful for our alumni support and involvement in our chapter. We look forward to what incredible memories we can make in the next few years and we are all eager to share them with you!
