Azmi Tawadros ’79 ([email protected]), M.D. pledged to Phi Delta Theta because he had previous high school friends in the fraternity, but he soon realized that the friendships he would make with the brothers themselves would set Phi Delta Theta apart.
One of his best memories from his time there was “the big sled in front of the house during spring semester 1978 with Gorilla diving off of it!”
The connections that Tawadros made in Phi Delta Theta continued with him through his journey to becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. “I was always in small fraternities with dental and medical schools and dental and surgical residencies.”
He believes that alumni should be at the forefront in helping the new generation of brothers. “Bill Green called me in early 2010 and asked if I could come to a meeting of older graduated brothers because our house was in trouble and could collapse. I wanted to do my part to help restore the house to a much more sustainable position.
“Monetary help is always good but mentoring and consulting the current and future house members is better. I gave what I could at the time. I hope to come back this fall to visit Purdue and the house. Good luck to you all!”
Without Phi Delta Theta, I wouldn’t have the confidence to deal with all the different types of people in my life.
