The Phi Delta Theta Sisterhood

We all know that being part of Phi Delta Theta means membership in an exclusive brotherhood.

But for some of our members, they become part of a sisterhood as well.

The Indiana Theta Mothers’ Club gives moms of active brothers an opportunity to network with other parents, stay connected to their sons’ fraternity experience, and help the chapter in a meaningful way.

As outgoing president of the Mothers’ Club (a role which, by the way, comes naturally to the mother of the current active president), Jeri Broderick has enjoyed maintaining a close connection with her son, Alex, throughout his fraternity experience.

“I also enjoyed getting to know the other brothers throughout the year, as we worked together on various things.”

Of the brotherhood, she said “There is a level of respect among them and for the fraternity and the house that I am not sure exists in some of the other fraternities. They have one of the highest GPAs in the Greek system at Purdue, and every time I have been in the house there has been respect for the families and visitors who are there.”

“This is an amazing group of young men of which I am glad Alex has had the chance to be a part of these last four years,” she added. “They are smart and ambitions. They are friendly and engaged. They are not what the typical perception of a fraternity is among most people.”

Jeri’s primary responsibilities as the head of the Mothers’ Club were to communicate with other mothers, collect dues, and assist brothers with the Mothers’ Day event in the spring. But she did more than connect with active brothers. She gained a sisterhood of 40+ other moms, too.

“I have made some friendships with the other moms throughout these four years,” she said. “We are all in the same position when our sons go away to college,” she said. “It is comforting to know you are not alone.”

In honor of Mothers’ Day, we want to thank and recognize all mothers who have supported our Phi Delta Theta experience.
